Basement Waterproofing

How to  the basement waterprooffing

I wonder why there are problems in basements waterpruffing? Why does mold, moisture and dampness appear? Melt water and groundwater are the reasons why the life of the foundation and the house is much shorter than it should be with the proper waterproofing. Unprotected from melt water and groundwater, the basement quickly deteriorates, and along with it the whole house dies. Moisture accumulated by brick walls or concrete penetrates into the structure, which leads to undesirable consequences at low temperatures. The main condition for a properly built house is the correct waterproofing of the basement. You should fully waterproof your home at the time of construction. Otherwise the result will not be as good. But, sometimes it happens that during the construction of a house a mistake was made, and the buyer did not pay attention to the waterproofing and in time it was not discovered.

METHODS OF BASEMENT WATERPROOFING

External at the stage of construction of the foundation is to ensure its protection from moisture. The easiest, most effective and cheapest way to protect the basement from moisture penetration is a vertical waterproofing from the outside, which is done during the construction stage, namely after the concrete hardens, when the foundation walls are not yet covered with earth.

Waterproofing of the basement from the OUTSIDE of the groundwater:

\\ Capping.
\\ Plastering.
\\ Veneer.
\\ Gutters and downspouts are one of the main parts of a home’s gutter system.

Clean the gutters: you should periodically remove dry leaves, which clog the gutters. It is advisable to clean at least once a year, including loose asphalt sludge that washes out of the shingles. There are different methods for cleaning gutters, the most reliable are high pressure washers.
Gutters must be properly installed-water must flow into the gutters, but if it doesn’t, it can begin to enter the foundation of the house, causing water to enter the basement. So when a homeowner suspects your home’s gutters are undersized or sloped, take a good look at them during heavy rains to make sure there is no problem.If the water table is high enough, you should consider building a drain.

INTERNAL

Basement walls waterproofing from the inside
What to do if during the construction phase no one cared about the external waterproofing of the basement, or these works were carried out poorly? No one will dig out the foundation, to raise the floors along with the walls too. It remains to apply the internal waterproofing, despite all its labor intensity. Such waterproofing consists of treating the basement from the inside, not from the outside. In some cases, this work must be done if the water table is so high that the external waterproofing is under great pressure, so that it is not enough.

According to their purpose indoor waterproofing can be:

Counterpressure, when the water table is higher than the floor level in the basement;
Non-pressurized when there is a large amount of precipitation in the area.

The following types of waterproofing materials are used:

bitymnaya-mastikaOmpazochnye bituminous, cement mastics or polymer emulsions. The principle of their action is that on the inner surface of the basement they form a continuous thick seamless film after application. Some of these materials are liquid, which allows you to use a sprayer, while others are paste-like, requiring a spatula;

Liquid Glass. Sometimes it is used in the form of a coating, but when treating basement walls inside, it is mixed with concrete plaster mortar;

Roll-coat insulation. Arrangement of internal waterproofing with roll-up materials is not prohibited, but has its own difficulties. It is susceptible to mechanical stresses, so outside for it make a pressure wall of bricks, but inside the basement, such a wall is much more difficult to erect: it will take a lot of space and will require reliable anchoring to the foundation;

Liquid mixture based on silica sand, cement and chemical additives. It is used for penetrating waterproofing, the essence of which boils down to the occlusion of capillaries and pores in the thickness of the concrete, due to which it becomes impossible for groundwater to penetrate them.

By following these tips and tricks, homeowners can make better decisions about basement waterproofing. Not only does it help them fix leaks, seepage or other problems, but it also benefits them in the long run.
