OCTOBER WORKOUT UPDATE

Posted by: Andrew  :  Category: Workout Program, Workout Reviews

Ok just giving you a quick update about my workouts. I have as many of you know been slogging away at the gym lately; and very happy about doing so too.

At first I was a bit spoilt for choice and had two freestyle workouts were I tried ALL of the machines, free weights, nick-knacks and knock-knocks; with all that out of my system I got down to planning new workouts.

MODERATELY HEAVY & REALLY HEAVY

Part of my workout variations is working with heavy weights. If I am following a pyramid lifting scheme; which starts with a set of really heavy weights that I can only lift about 8-10 reps, then the next set will be lighter and lighter and lighter – usually all the way down to 5-10kgs and on the last set (5th, 6th or 7th) I’ll keep lifting until people who have just come on the scene are looking at me funny because it looks like I’m killing myself lifting 5kgs!

BIG MUSCLE GROUPS

The muscles that I am targeting are all from the big muscle group family; back, chest, legs & core (torso and abs). Even though I’m not focusing on some of the more common smaller muscle groups (biceps, triceps, etc) they are still getting a good workout as they will get a good workout by default when I am working my big muscles.

TRAINING TO FAILURE

Every time I hit the gym I go as far as I can and then some more. I have been careful who I make friends with at the gym as I don’t want to be included in the time-wasters club. The few friends that I have made are just as serious and focused as I am. These friends come in very handy when training to failure because when you can’t go any further they can help you lift some more, which is called a ‘forced rep’. I will take in turns with my friends and I’ll help them out too. We chat very little and just get on with it.

SUMMARY

As I am piling on the muscles my weight loss (not fat loss) has been slowing down. I would like to see the lbs go down quicker than they have been since I started at the gym but they are not. I have definitely made some serious muscle gains which is the reason for the slowing down of how much I weigh weekly.

But not to worry progress is still being made.

    Hey Andrew,

I’m back and have been going at it for the past 3 weeks finally. From reading this post, I’m not going at it anywhere near as hard and heavy as you are, you’re doing fantastic!

Thanks a lot for checking up on me every so often during my hiatus, it meant a lot that there were others out there still supporting me and I’m sorry I haven’t been around to do the same for you.

Great job on achieving so much this year and great job on the site!

    Steve

Well it looks like I have to hop over to NMFD and catch up :-)

    Talk to you soon mate!

    Take care,
    Andrew
