AUTHOR INTERVIEW: Robert dos Remedios (Men’s Health Power Training)
I am really excited about this interview; about 6 weeks ago I got to get my hands on a copy of Men’s Health Power Training. After spending some time devouring it and I have reread it again a few times since then, I was really keen to give it ago.
What I like about Men’s Health Power Training is that it helps you train the right way to meet your long-term fitness goals (Do you remember what the ‘T’ in the SMARTER principle stands for) The other thing that is a big plus with the Men’s Health Power Training is that you get to choose exercises that will be in the workout program.
I thought about doing a book review but I thought that wouldn’t do the Men’s Health Power Training any justice so I have interviewed Robert dos Remedios, author of Men’s Health Power Training!
Hi Coach Dos, thank you for taking the time for this interview. Ok let’s start with where you come from and what career field you are in?
I am the Director of Speed, Strength & Conditioning at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, CA. I have been here for 10 years now. I have been involved in sport specific strength and conditioning for nearly 20 years now. I hold a masters in Kinesiology and certifications from the NSCA (CSCS) the CSCC (SCCC) and USA Weightlifting.
Cool, so there is plenty know-how and experience behind the Men’s Health Power Training. So how long did it take to get the Men’s Health Power Training from idea to published book?
The idea for the book was pretty cut and dry…. To look like an athlete you should be training like an athlete. Every single exercise, program concept in the book is all from the training that I use with my athletes every single day. If you train for performance and function, getting jacked, lean etc. will come as a by-product of this training. I really didn’t have to come with anything other than putting it all together in a package for Rodale and Men’s Health. The process was long but my favorite part was flying into Pennsylvania to supervise the photo shoot….this book probably has more exercise photos than any other book of its kind so it made for some long days on the shoot.
Yes that is one thing that I noticed when I flipped through, there’s a lot of illustration. So when people (like me) follow the workout programs and nutrition advice in Men’s Health Power Training what results can be expected?
I have no doubt that if you adhere to the intensity requirements of this program (and it’s not going to be easy), every single person who takes it on will get stronger, leaner, more muscular etc. I have had hundreds of folks contact me to tell me this is the greatest program they have ever experienced.
Yeah, if it’s too easy then your not doing it right! I too would have to agree it’s a fantastic program, it has my vote! So what makes Men’s Health Power Training different from other guides that educate about exercise and nutrition?
No frills, just simple functional performance conditioning. No shortcuts just a lot of hard work and a TON of exercises from an extremely extensive menu of exercises to choose from. You will NEVER get bored on my program. I think the proof is in the pudding in this case, Power Training has become a best seller and continues to do very well and even seems to be gaining more and more popularity every day.
Yeah there are enough tarts (strawberry) dolled up out there, we need something that works! And finally what advice would you give someone that would help them stay motivated to keep on the Men’s Health Power Training?
Think of things in the long term. Short term goals, results are meaningless…. Fitness is a journey, not a destination. We will be going at this for the rest of our lives, might as well find something that works right? Also, discomfort is something that we should relish….too many people don’t understand that nothing worthwhile comes easy. Keep plugging away, you won’t regret it.
